Police on Long Island believe they’ve solved two murders from more than 20 years ago.

John Bittrolff, 48, was arrested yesterday in connection with two murders from the 1990’s.  Newsday reports that police used DNA recovered at the crime scenes to tie Bittrolff to the killings.

Rita Tangredi, 31, was found dead in a wooded area of East Patchogue in November 1993.  Police said she had been strangled and her body was nude.

Then in January 1994, Colleen McNamee, 20, was found dead in Shirley under similar circumstances.

Bittrolff will be in court today to face two counts of second degree murder.
