Mayor Bloomberg made a big announcement on WOR 710 Friday. Bloomberg told John Gambling that NYC will be putting its health insurance contract out to bid in an effort to curb health care costs.

Bloomberg also announced that the city’s' current health insurance provider, EmblemHealth, has already said they will not seek a rate increase next year. Bloomberg said on "The John Gambling Show" that EmblemHealth has raised the rates every year. Healthcare is now costing NYC $6.4 billion a year, a number that has doubled since 2002. The mayor believes that by putting the health insurance contract up for bidding, city employees will get a lower priced health plan.
