A group of FDNY trainees have contracted the bacterial infected MRSA while on Randall's Island.
At least of of these trainees has been hospitalized. The probationary firefighters were on the Island enduring physical courses that involved crawling and climbing.
MRSA is an infection that is not curable by antibiotics, and is usually contracted through wounds or contaminated surfaced. The fire department is cleaning and disinfecting all of the equipment and facilities, and the rookies are not being encourage to wear knee pads to avoid further cuts and scrapes.
