PIX11 reports that the New York Attorney General's Office has allotted the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) $40,000 to be used to equip MTA police with kits to treat emergencies regarding heroin overdoses.

With the heroin epidemic creating problems throughout the city, the money will be used to assist authorities in aiding people suffering overdoses in the transit areas.

The money has come from civil and criminal forfeiture cases and each kit will contain:

"Two syringes and two inhalers of naloxone — also marketed under the brand name Narcan — and instructions."
