(Christopher Robbins) Jay Z has answered calls to justify his relationship with Barneys, the luxury retailer that has been the target of several discrimination lawsuits after black shoppers were accosted by NYPD officers. "I move and speak based on facts and not emotion," Shawn Carter said in his Thought Catalogue post statement. "Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately?"

The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation receives 25% of the profits from Jay Z's "New York Holiday" line, a fact the rapper is eager to point out. "This money is going to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships to help further their education at institutions of higher learning...The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn’t want to make without the full facts."
