"There’s really no place to win like New York City," Phil Jackson declared to a room full of reporters and players this afternoon, as he assumed the position of President of the New York Knicks at their home in Madison Square Garden.
The hiring of the famous "Zen Master" of basketball is the latest move taken by Executive Chairman Jim Dolan, who was seated next to Jackson at the press conference, and the rest of the MSG organization to revamp the flailing Knickerbockers. The team has faced a rough year in terms of falling ticket sales, rising fan criticism of head coach Mike Woodson, and talks of Carmelo Anthony—or, The Last Great Hope—leaving the team once he becomes a free agent this summer. This Dark Ages sentiment was made very clear at the press conference.
