An Occupy Wall Street protester has been released from Rikers Island after 58 days behind bars.

Cecily McMillan was convicted in May of assaulting a police officer back in 2012.

"My time at Rikers has changed me permanently, an even more formative experience than Zuccotti Park itself," McMillan said.

McMillan was arrested in 2012 after she was caught on video elbowing a police officer in the head.

She claimed that wasn’t her intention, saying she reacted after feeling someone grab her.
