A firefighter responding to his very first fire helped save young children from a burning apartment building in Brooklyn.

During a fire in Boerum Hill early Sunday morning, Jordan Sullivan pushed through smoke to a bedroom where a 5 month old child was trapped.

"It wasn't visible in there, so I was feeling for him," said Sullivan.

He handed the 5 month old to another firefighter and then helped rescue three more children who were still inside the Wyckoff Gardens housing complex.

Sullivan is a probationary firefighter who was responding to his very first fire call.  He credited his training, saying that his instinct took over.  Sullivan said he was in the right place at the right time.

"It's a humbling experience.  It's an honor to be able to serve the community.  I still have a lot to learn," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
