Schools in Sparta, New Jersey are closed Wednesday after a scare at the Helen Morgan School.

A staff member at the school noticed a fallen ceiling tile in a classroom.  Closer examination revealed "a structure issue" with a supporting roof trusses, likely caused by the snow on the roof of the building.

Students were sent home early on Tuesday and schools were closed Wednesday while engineers and school officias inspect the roofs of all district buildings.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Dennis Tobin said, "We did not have a roof collapse at the school."

Tobin said it's important to get students back in the classroom.

"However, with that being said, the safety of our students and staff must continue to be our number one priority," he said.
