The NYPD’s promise to review its policies isn’t enough for community advocates.  During a funeral last night for Eric Garner, the Reverend Al Sharpton demanded a federal civil rights investigation.

Video last week showed a police officer apparently putting a chokehold on Garner while arresting him.  Garner later died.

“The tape tells what you did and what you didn’t do,” Sharpton said.  “This time we don’t want no excuses, no back-biting.  Go to the tape.”

The officer accused of putting Garner in a chokehold has been stripped of his gun and badge.  Sharpton wants him prosecuted.

Following Garner’s death, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton has promised a top to bottom review of the NYPD’s policies.  He’s also vowed to retrain all officers.

Sharpton said that’s not good enough.

“You don’t need no training to stop choking a man saying ‘I can’t breathe,’” Sharpton said.
