Students in Edison are returning to class today, four days after the James Monre Elementary School was destroyed in a fire.

Kids will attend class at Middlesex County College, where two buildings have been set aside for the nearly 500 students.  That will enable the children to stay together.  Local school districts collected classroom supplies to help the impacted students.

Jerome Higgins is blamed for starting the fire, after he allegedly threw a cigarette into a trash can.  He was issued a summons.

Students are only expected to attend class at Middlesex County College for a few weeks.  After that, they could finish the school year at a vacant building.

James Monroe was celebrating its 50 year anniversary.  School officials have vowed to rebuild.
