UPDATE: Authorities are confirming a plane crashed in the backyard of a house in a residential neighborhood in Suffolk County headed for MacArthur Airport.

The pilot of the plane was killed in the crash, but he somehow steered the plane in-between two homes. The crash happened in the backyard of a home just missing a room where a mother was caring for her infant child. Neither were hurt, but there was damage to the room in which they were in.

There was an explosion and fire in East Patchogue, Long Island this morning as emergency crews responded and continue to be on the scene.

A small plane crash is speculated, but officials have no yet confirmed that this is the case.

Stay tuned for updates.
