UPDATE: The suspect being accused of hitting an officer with a patrol car in Queens earlier this morning has been found in Manhattan and taken into custody at 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

New York City police are on the hunt for a suspect they say escaped custody and hit a detective with a vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 38 year old Bryan McMenamin.  Authorities said he was being arrested on drug charges in Queens around 7 p.m. last night when he broke free.  McMenamin allegedly jumped into a car and hit a narcotics detective as he drove away.

The vehicle was later found several blocks away.

The officer was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital and is expected to be okay.

Police are asking for the public's help in their search for McMenamin.  Authorities described him as a 5 foot 8 inch tall white male with a bald head.
