Another school shooting took place, this time in Oregon. A gunman killed one student and wounded a teacher at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, which is outside of Portland. 14-year-old Emilio Hoffman was killed in the boys locker room. The gunman also died, most likely self-inflicted. This is the third violent act on a school campus in three weeks. Teacher Todd Rispler was shot and was still able to get to the office and initiate the school lockdown. (According to the group Everytown for Gun Safety, this is the 74th violent incident involving guns in schools since Newtown. President Obama pointed out that averages to one a week.)
There's been a shocking upset in the Virginia primary election. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost in an upset to an unknown local economics professor Dave Brat. This is crazy because Cantor was thought to be in line to as the next speaker of the House. Brat has said Cantor is not conservative enough. This is the biggest win by a tea party challenger in this year's primaries.
The driver charged in the accident that injured Tracy Morgan and killed his friend is due to appear in court today.
The Rangers play the Kings tonight; the Rangers trail the series 3-0. The Spurs beat the Heat 111-92. They lead the Series 2 games to 1. Game 4 is tomorrow night. By the way, Rangers tickets used to be as high as $4,500. Now you can get some for $415.
The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the first use of drones for commercial purposes. The FAA told BP they could use drones for surveillance over Alaska, to survey pipelines and roads. This is the first step toward drones delivering pizza to my house through my living room window.
Google is buying Skybox Imaging for $500 million. Skybox is a satellite startup. Google is hoping that it will make Google Maps the most perfect GPS of all time. Hopefully, Skybox will also bring wifi to remote areas.
And a man led police on a car chase through two states…on a tractor. 20-year-old Dustin D. Clouse, who’s from Indiana, evaded the cops for two hours on his tractor, and crossed state lines. Police first approached Clouse about a report of vandalism while he was sitting on his tractor and he simply drove away. A two-hour low speed chase ensued...the tractor reaches up to 18mph. Clouse was eventually stopped when the tractor had some mechanical issues and stopped. He still wouldn't get off and police used a taser to get him off and take him into custody.
