Back in April, over 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria were kidnapped from their school. Now, an Islamist militant group has said they’re responsible for the kidnapping, and will sell the girls. A man claiming to be the leader of the militant group Boko Haram released a video, finally confirming suspicions that they were behind the school abductions. Boko Haram means “Western education is forbidden.” The leader said then girls should be getting married, that there’s a market for the girls, and Allah is commanding him to sell them. The Nigerian government is vowing to continue their rescue efforts. #BringBackOurGirls is trending globally.
School officials at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia are telling students it’s safe to come to school today, after two shootings in two days. Sunday, one student was injured after someone fired into a dorm and they were hit by flying debris. On Monday, one student was shot in the head by a 21-year-old student. Officials are so far saying they don’t think the two shootings are related.

Coca-Cola is removing an ingredient from its drinks that’s also used in flame retardant. The ingredient is brominated vegetable oil, or BVO. This ingredient contains bromine, which is used in plastic, baby clothing, and upholstered furniture as a flame retardant. Coke said it’s safe, although neither Japan nor the European Union approve its use in food. BVO is in Fresca and Fanta, among other drinks. Coke said it’ll transition to other ingredients by the end of the year.
And researchers at a college in England have figured out how many lies Pinocchio could tell before his nose would put so much STRAIN on his little wooden neck that his head would fall off. And the answer is…. his neck would snap at 13 lies.
And if you want people to think you’re super-smart, try adding your middle initial to your name. Combining seven studies on the subject, researchers from two UK universities determined that people who add middle initials to their names get treated with more respect.
And a man in Washington state was beaten pretty severely about the head….and now he’s a math whiz. The furniture salesman was attacked outside a bar back in 2002 and has some pretty severe last effects like PTSD. However, he also says that now he sees the world as pixilated, and trees “look like an equation translating.” It’s called savant syndrome, where people get amazing abilities after a traumatic injury or illness.
