Fire Breaks Out At Carmines Restaurant In Times Square

Early Friday [Dec 21] morning a fire broke out at the famous Carmine's restaurant in Times Square. Smoke was pouring out of the entrance as firefighters came.

Although the FDNY couldn't be reached for a comment, a worker from the scene told News 4 that he and other workers were in the basement when one of them noticed a small fire around 7:30 a.m. They were about to call the fire department when suddenly, "it just blew up."

No injuries have been reported but there are photo from the scene here

Other witnesses say that nearby theaters were covered with smoke. A cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is unclear if the family restaurant will have to close for a period of time.
