Lena Waithe To Receive Trailblazer Honor At 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards

Lena Waithe's glorious comeup continues as the first woman of color to win an Emmy Award for comedy writing will now be honored at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards. During the ceremony, the multi-talent will be recognized with the Trailblazer title, which focuses on "game-changing creators with fresh and fearless voices in entertainment.

"Lena is shaking up Hollywood and breaking cultural boundaries through her innovative and authentic storytelling," said Amy Doyle, general manager of MTV, VH1 and Logo, said in a statement. "Her unwavering passion for equality and inclusion make her the perfect recipient for this year’s Trailblazer Award." Beyond her work on Master of None, Waithe is starring in Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One, which is in theaters now. She is also serving as writer, creator, and executive producer of Showtime’s The Chi. Following the big announcement, Waite took to Instagram to share a photo of a news article about the accolade, adding a simple one-word caption: "Honored."

Expect even more announcements from the upcoming ceremony, which will air June 18 at 9 PM ET from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles and see hosting duties by Tiffany Haddish. Scroll on below to see Waithe's official announcement!
