Jake Owen Celebrates Seventh No. 1, Reflects on Career

Jake Owen is far from running on E. The country star, who this week marks his seventh career No. 1 single with “I Was Jack (You Were Diane),” took to Instagram on Sunday (July 29) to reflect on another number: 12.

In the same week he is rejoicing a chart-topping song, the Florida native is also celebrating the twelfth anniversary of his first album, 2006’s Startin’ With Me. “I had no idea what was in store for me, but I was excited to just hop on this train of ‘life’ and see where it led me,” Jake says of his attitude as a young, aspiring artist. “Of course I had dreams, goals, aspirations... but a man can only do so much on his own.” He goes on to thank “some unbelievably talented people that worked tirelessly to help mold and guide” his career and the legend who helped him to secure what he calls his “lucky number 7.” “Thank you @johnmellencamp for trusting us and allowing us to pay our respects to you and everything you’ve done to pave the way for so many of us in the music industry,” he adds of the inspiration behind “I Was Jack (You Were Diane) before adding, “I feel like I’m just getting started. I have a lot more left in my tank. Thanks to every one of you who’ve reached out to me and said congratulations. What a ride it’s been.”
