Lin-Manuel Miranda Buys Drama Book Shop

Is there anything he can't do?

Lin-Manuel Miranda is already an amazing actor, composer / lyricist, AND author, and is now making his debut as bookseller after purchasing the famous Drama Book Shop. The Drama Book Shop is a century-old theatre and film book shop located in the theater district of New York City. Secure in its reputation as the city’s best source for theatrical works - it keeps 8,000 plays in stock. The Drama Book Shop opened its doors for the first time in 1917 and recently announced that their lease would be up as of January 31, 2019.

Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter early in the morning of January 8, 2019 and shared a sentiment following his purchase the book shop, "As a teen, I went to the Drama Book Shop on 47th. Spent hours reading plays. Felt made for me, a place to go. In 2002, I met with Tommy Kail in the Drama Book Shop. It gave us a place to go. Proud to be part of this next chapter. A place for you to go."

The new owners of the store are Lin-Manuel Miranda; Thomas Kail, director of Hamilton; Jeffrey Seller, producer of Hamilton; and James L. Nederlander, the president of the Nederlander Organization, that operates and owns the theater in which the Hamilton is running. The four friends will have to find a new, more affordable location for the store and it will be announced in the upcoming months. We can't wait to visit and hope The Drama Book Shop stays open for another 100 years!
