High Winds Send Worker Flying Onto Roof As He Tries To Secure Large Tent

Employees at the Esso Club in Clemson, South Carolina spent most of their morning setting up tables, chairs, and a large tent for an event happening later in the day. While they were finishing their preparations, a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area bringing heavy rain and high winds.

The strong winds lifted the large tent into the air as two employees desperately tried to pull it back down the ground.

"All our stuff is getting blown away, and I'm trying to save all the work we put into it," Samuel Foster told WYFF-TV.

Foster was lifted 20 feet into the air and tossed like a rag doll onto the roof the building.

"It took a second to register, but then I'm, like, 20 feet in the air. And all I could think about was, 'I've got to land on this roof,'" Foster said.

Foster smacked into the gutter as he fell off the roof. He required stitches for a cut above his left eye but was otherwise unharmed.

"I'm really thankful for God looking out for me there. Esso's been really supportive. My friends, my fraternity-- I'm really thankful for all of that."

Another female employee tried to hold onto the tent but lost her grip and fell to the ground as a table crashed on top of her. She is recovering from undisclosed injuries.

The storms did not damage the Esso Club and it reopened the following day.
