Disney Will Make A $5 Million Donation To The NAACP

On Wednesday (June 3), the Walt Disney Company announced it will be making a series of donations to social justice organizations in the wake of George Floyd's death, as well as the worldwide protests against police brutality in the United States. The Walt Disney Disney company detailed their plan to support a number of organizations in a statement that states these actions will be part of an "ongoing commitment" to "advance social justice."

The first organization that will receive a donation from the Walt Disney Company is the NAACP. “The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that Black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated,” CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Chapek said. “This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice.”

In addition to their donation to the NAACP, Disney has established a Disney Employee Matching Gifts program. This program allows Disney employees to share donations they've made on their own and Disney will match those contributions.

Disney also adjusted its television programming this week, as well, to reflect what's going on in the world. OnTuesday evening (June 2), an ABC News special about the recent protests in the U.S. aired, which was followed by the re-airing of two powerful episodes of black-ish that addressed racism and police brutality.
