Why JVKE Runs All New Songs By His Parents

Lots of people use the holidays as a way to reconnect with their families after a busy year, but JVKE always circles back with his parents when he's working on new music.

Speaking to Medha Gandhi and Danielle Monaro at the Mercedes-Benz Interview Lounge at Z100 JingleBall, JVKE explains how he involves those close to him in his songwriting.

"One of my favorite things about doing music is having that first listen with my family and friends — that's when I really can tell, 'Oh, this might be the one' or 'Maybe we should move on to something else,'" he says. "Because you really can't tell when you're in the creative process, everything sounds kinda good or maybe you don't really feel it, but then you get people's reaction. It's like, 'Oh, okay, I get it now. Maybe this one will work.' ...Mom is always honest for sure."

JVKE confirmed that he was focused on delivering a great performance, but once that was over, he was eager to say hello to longtime friends like Jax, Lauv and Charlie Puth.
