This fruit was a serious status symbol in the 1700s

Did you know that in 18th century England, pineapples were considered a sign of wealth?! They were so expensive that you could rent one for the night and take them to parties to show off as a status symbol.

Pineapples were discovered in South America by Christopher Columbus and when he brought them back to Europe they were an instant hit and quickly became a delicacy.

They made their way to England where they were sold for as much as the equivalent of $8,000 a pineapple! People even rented them out to show off when they went to parties!

Imagine pulling up to the clubs in 2018 carrying a damn PINEAPPLE?!?!

Hmmmm the 1700's, a simpler time.
