Like a lot of things, the idea of Mayochup started on Twitter, when the world lost it's mind over a picture of mayonnaise in a Heinz bottle...mixed with ketchup. The product was actually available in the Middle East, officially branded Mayochup.
After the internet blew up, Heinz released a poll to see if we were really down to mess with Mayochup on a global level. Just about 500,000 fans voted "yes" on whether or not we get Mayochup in US stores, so now we wait!
There is another vote going down though. Today and tomorrow, September 17 and 18, Heinz is letting Twitter users decide where the new condiment mixture will hit stores first. Whichever city gets the most votes will get treated to a "food truck takeover," which means free french fries and Mayochup before Heinz stocks the good stuff cross country.
Even if you're not in one of the cities chosen for early release you'll still be able pick up some Maychup in stores by the end of this month and will be available on Amazon and Walmart in 16oz bottles. And don't expect Mayochup to go anywhere though, Heinz says it's here to stay.
Per a press release, the brand is "excited to officially welcome Heinz Mayochup sauce to the Heinz family of products, including ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce and our mos recent addition, Heinz mayonnaise."
Check out the poll, New York you know what to do...
