Katie Lowes Shares Her Come-Up Catering Story That’ll Inspire You

We can’t get enough of Katie Lowes. The Scandal alum and Katie’s Crib podcast host Zoomed with Ryan Seacrest on-air on Wednesday, July 15, and recalled she used to listen to On Air With Ryan Seacrest in her car while working a catering job amid navigating her career as an actress.

Lowes’ story left us inspired to never give up. Plus, she’s your new best friend if you’re a parent with her all too relatable podcast, Katie’s Crib.

“When I used to cater all the time, I used to drop off breakfast and lunches from … this big powerful restaurant in L.A., Ammo, that all the big stars went to and got their power lunches and whenever a big celebrity would do a photoshoot for a cover of a magazine, I would drop off Amo breakfast and lunch and I would listen to your show driving there and driving back,” Lowes recalled. “And I’d be like, ‘Ryan Seacrest is the hardest working man in Hollywood and if he’s up and I’m up … [then] this morning we’re together and we’re dropping off breakfast! I’ve got to keep working my butt off and I can make it too!”

Lowes added she would even call her mom, exhausted and losing hope.

“I’d listen to your show through my tears as I would call my mom and she’d be like, ‘Just keeping going, you can do it!”

The Scandal star’s dreams came true and she shared she’ll forever have Shonda Rhimes to thank — and also for her new podcast, Katie’s Crib. With empathy and a sense of humor about it all, Katie’s Crib keeps it real while providing a guide for parents trying to find their way with open and honest conversations about everything from parenting, fertility, and postpartum to the trials and tribulations.

“A ton of moms [have been] coming up to me like crying, laughing, hormonal, new moms, you know, just being like, ‘You have gotten me through some really dark times,’” Katie shared. “‘You made me laugh; you’ve made me feel less alone. … Moms have really responded because I think a lot of people thought motherhood might be easy and it’s just not. It’s easy sometimes and some days it’s just really not.”

The candid actress added that Shonda is to thank for the podcast, with the hilariously relatable tagline “real talk, real tired.”

“[Shonda] gave me this podcast because I was walking around the last season of Scandal pregnant and raw and losing my mind laughing and crying … and she was like, ‘You’re really raw and you can talk to anyone about what’s really going on, I feel like you should have a podcast!”
