He planned to end the night sitting side by side with Matt Damon, until Damon noticed something happening on the stage. That's when Kimmel realized that it was his job to go up there and clear things up. Leave it up to Denzel Washington to save the day and get Kimmel to hand the mic over to Moonlight's director to make a speech!
