In a 1991 study, sex researcher Shere Hite found that 70 percent of married women have cheated on their husbands; a 1993 follow-up study found that 72 percent of married men have as well, according to the Washington Post. That number seems super high, but the message remains, cheating is prevalent and it isn't going anywhere, unfortunately.
Exclusive sexual activity is unsustainable for most couples, especially with its accessibility in the digital age. As Eric Anderson from the Post puts it, “only when men and women are able to make sexual choices free of stigma will people be honest with their partners about their desires.”
According to a study, which was conducted by Victoria Milan, a dating site where married people go to cheat on their partners, there are certain ages where women are most likely to cheat on their man. Victoria Milan assessed figures from across multiple continents and countries and covered adult women of all ages.
The study found that the average age women cheat is 36.6 years old, about seven years after the average woman marries (29). In the USA, women start having affairs after 8.5 years of marriage, and the average age is 35.5. Irish women were the quickest to break the monogamy bond, hopping into bed with someone else 3.6 years after tying the knot.
“Married women start having affairs for various reasons. Perhaps their husband is not giving them the attention and respect they deserve. Perhaps they still love their partners, but the spark has vanished from their marriage. Alternatively, they may have an open relationship, and both have affairs to satisfy their physical needs whilst still sharing a tight emotional bond.”
