There's no other way to say it, this has been the craziest week of my entire life.
First, I watched actual Nazis assemble down in Virginia.
Then I saw a crowd of peaceful protestors be mowed down by a car, leaving 1 dead, 19 injured, and countless other shaken up wondering how the hell they just avoided certain death at such close range.
THEN I listened to the president of the United States say both sides were at fault, then condemn the white supremacists, and THEN HE BLAMED BOTH SIDES AGAIN.
He actually went as far as to say there were some fine people in the group of neo Nazis.
And to top it all off, I just saw a video of Chris Cantwell, speaker for Unite the Right (aka groups of racist human garbage) cry on camera saying he fears for his life and doesn't understand why people are upset.
Anyway, this is the reason I value comedy above all else. In the midst of all the craziness and confusion, we, the meme creators of the internet, went to town on these mouth breathers. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.
The material was pouring out of my friends and I at an unprecedented rate, and here's why. It's not because I don't take the events seriously. I take them very seriously, but for me, no situation is so grave that humor can't provide some welcome levity.
Humor, for me, is synonymous with love. Love creates understanding and acceptance, and acceptance is the first step to making actual changes, both personal and societal. So while the events of the past few days left me with a heavy heart and racing mind, wondering what kind of a world my children will grow up in, I know one thing. There will be laughter.
