Jennifer Lawrence has been everybody's dream BFF for a few years now. After her break out role as Katniss in the Hunger Games Franchise and few relatable moments on the red carpet, JLaw just seemed like the girl everybody wanted to hang out with. It's hard to imagine anybody ever turned one of the most successful living actresses down, but that has happened before. Thanks to Josh Schwarz we now know that Jen actually lost out on a pretty iconic role to Blake Lively.
“We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned,” Schwartz told Vulture about Gossip Girl. “This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it.”
It's fun to imagine the world of Gossip Girl with Jennifer Lawrence as the main character. She's certainly glamorous enough to pull off Serena van der Woodsen, but there's no denying she would have brought a completely different vibe to the Upper East Side's reigning teen queen. It turns out that the show's creators knew exactly what they were looking for when it came to casting Serena. Schwartz told Vanity Fair that the show 's creators “didn’t see a lot of other girls for Serena. She has to be somebody that you believe would be sitting in the front row at Fashion Week eventually."
It's always a bummer to be turned away from something you really want, but it worked out pretty well for both of these talented actresses. Maybe if that Gossip Girl reunion every happens, JLaw can play Serena's evil twin from LA or something. Hey, it could happen! (Maybe).
