While Demi Lovato did overdose on Tuesday (July 24), TMZ has backtracked a portion of their story, with a new report that reveals heroin was not involved in this incident.
Earlier this evening, TMZ explained that their original story arrived, courtesy of law enforcement sources. However, an insider on Lovato's side has since revealed that heroin was not the cause of her OD, but wouldn't elaborate any further. As the story goes, the 25-year-old was at her Los Angeles residence when she was given Narcan, a prescription used to counter the effects of opioids. Meanwhile, Lovato's rep released a statement on the matter, saying, "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect, and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."⠀
Lovato has fought substance abuse for several years and admitted that she relapsed on her six-year sobriety streak on her new song, "Sober," which dropped in June.
After the news of Lovato's OD surfaced, social media saw a peak in afternoon conversation, with several industry names, including Ariana Grande, Missy Elliott, and Kehlani, coming forward to wish their best for the pop star.
