Larry Nassar was assaulted just hours after he was placed into the general population at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona. Nassar began serving a 60-year prison sentence in February after pleading guilty to child pornography charges. He was sentenced to an additional 40 to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting hundreds of underage girls under the guise of medical care while he worked as the doctor for the USA Gymnastics national team.
Nassar's attorney Jacqueline McCann filed court documents asking for a new sentence and blamed the assault on the judge who lambasted the disgraced doctor when she sentenced him.
"Judge Aquilina made numerous statements throughout the proceedings indicating that she had already decided to impose the maximum allowed by the sentence agreement even before the sentencing hearing began," McCann wrote in the filing. "Thus, from the defendant's perspective the sentencing hearing was just a ritual.
The documents also requested that Nassar gets transferred to another prison that can ensure his safety.
