It's not surprising to see any of the Kardashian-Jenner women get criticized for their parenting decisions. Mom-shaming is real thing and when you're living your life so publicly, many people think it's okay to offer up their unsolicited opinions. The latest mom-shaming aimed at Kim Kardashian West was sparked by an Instagram she posted of her 5-year-old daughter North West. In the photo, North is giving her dad, Kanye West, a kiss on the cheek as he smiles. Kim captioned the photo "I can still feel love," quoting lyrics from her husband's recently released song Feel the Love. It's an extremely sweet snapshot, however, the mom-shamers came out in droves to criticize Kim's decision to straighten North's hair.
A flood of comments were left on Kim's post calling her out for straightening North's naturally curly hair. "Stop straightening her hair," one person commented, while another wrote, "That poor baby's curl pattern is gonna be all jacked up from the heat damage she's putting on her hair at a young age." Another one of Kim's followers claimed to be able to "feel the heat damage from here! Leave your [kid's] hair alone let her have the choice to damage it when she's older."
Kim responded to the mom-shaming over on her Twitter account, where she also posted the adorable photo of Kanye and North. "Don’t straighten her hair too much it’ll ruin her curls," a concerned follower replied. "I did that to my hair and ruined it but I’m finally getting my natural curly hair back." Kim retweeted the reply and explained that North "is allowed twice a year, on her birthday and birthday party! This pic was taken back in June on her bday."
This isn't the first time Kim has responded to criticism about North's hair, either. When the 5-year-old was photographed with straight hair in June, many were quick to make comments about it then, as well. Kim spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about all the flak. "She wanted straight hair and I straightened her hair one time. It's funny, because online everyone thought that we pressed it and did this whole thing. It was just a flat iron. I even read that she had extensions on! She has curly hair, so when you straighten her hair, it's gonna look really long. I can't believe people didn't get that. Sometimes you just have to tune it out! It was her birthday and all she wanted was to try to have her hair straightened," KKW said.
So, in conclusion, haters (and mom-shamers) back off. Let North live!
