Macklemore Dedicates Song To Demi Lovato After Reported Overdose

Macklemore is joining the chorus of cheerleaders rooting for Demi Lovato's recovery. While performing at Xfinity Center in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday night (July 24), the rapper tributed a heartfelt rendition of his song "Otherside" to the ailing pop singer who had previously been rushed to the hospital for an apparent overdose earlier that day.

"I do that song because if it wasn't for my sobriety and my recovery, I wouldn't be on this stage tonight," the Seattle emcee told the crowd of his past struggles with drugs and addiction. "And, I just want to send prayers and my thoughts and love out to Demi Lovato," he continued, adding, "I heard about that and when we have this disease of addiction that ties us addicts together. And, that's my sister in recovery. I know what it's like to slip. I know what it's like to relapse."

As previously reported via TMZ on Tuesday (July 24), paramedics arrived at the "Sorry Not Sorry" musician's Hollywood Hills residence before noon. She was reportedly treated with Narcan — an emergency treatment used to counter opioid overdoses — by her friends before being transported to a nearby hospital for a suspected heroin overdose. The outlet has since amended their initial report after a Lovato source confirmed heroin was not a contributing factor in the incident. The 25-year-old's recent hospitalization came months after she admitted to breaking her six-year sobriety in a song called "Sober."

Lovato — who is currently "awake," in "stable" condition and with family — apparently battled with substance abuse weeks before the event. In the interim of her recovery, the star received immense support and well-wishes from fans and celebrities. Among them was the soloist's ex-boyfriend of six years, Wilmer Valderrama, who was "shocked" over the news.
