Wilmer Valderrama Is 'Shocked' Over Demi Lovato's Alleged Overdose

Demi Lovato's ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama is reportedly "shocked" after word spread that the pop star had allegedly experienced an overdose, according to an insider close to PEOPLE.

Less than a day after Lovato's overdose hit the blogosphere, a source close to the former couple told the outlet that the actor is "shocked" by the news. "He knew she was going through a tough time but he wasn't prepared for this," the insider revealed. "He saw her through so many ups and downs and was her rock through some of her darkest moments. To see her back in such a sad and vulnerable place is heartbreaking for him."

As per the source, Valderrama has always cared for Lovato and remained friends with her after they broke up in June 2016. "They're extremely close friends but there’s always potential they could give a romantic relationship another try," the insider continued. "A lot of their issues had to do with their age difference, but she's matured a lot even in the past year or so. At first, it was really fun for her to be single and date around, but now she's starting to see that the grass isn't always greener."

On Wednesday, Us Weekly shed some insight on the situation, courtesy of another insider, who revealed that this was something her inner circle saw coming. "One of her friends had Narcan on hand in case something like this happened. Her friends knew this was coming because she's been using so much again. They were up all night partying the night before at her house," the source revealed. "Luckily, the Narcan worked and she will recover."
