Kanye West's Father Reportedly Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

Kanye West's father has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, sources close to PEOPLE revealed on Monday (July 30).

As per the outlet, the hip-hop heavyweight's father was diagnosed with cancer and is already receiving treatment. "He seems to be responding well to the treatment and everyone is hopeful he will be okay," a Keeping Up with the Kardashians source admitted. "Kanye doesn't really talk about it. You can tell it's something that's very difficult for him." Thankfully, West has the support of his wife Kim Kardashian West and their three children to help make the process easier to manage. "When his mom suddenly passed away, Kanye was all alone. Having Kim and the kids around him helps in difficult situations," the source continued.

West has always spoken highly about his father, particularly during a 2013 interview, where he explained his influence in his life. "My father was a Black Panther," Kanye admitted in a 2013 interview. "My father was a journalist, a paparazzi, a photojournalist. He was a paparazzi. We had a dark room in our house. Like seven years ago, he lived in a homeless shelter. Not because he was homeless, because he wanted to help the ex-drug addicts. He wanted to get that close. He started a foundation called Good Water and moved to the Dominican Republic to help right there, to help with the prostitution, to help with the extortion, to help right there, he stays in the Dominican Republic right now."

As you'll recall, West's mother Donda died in 2007 after cosmetic surgery complications. She was 58. More recently, the rapper wanted to use a photo of the plastic surgeon as his latest album cover, ye, but decided on a shot that he took on his way to a Wyoming listening party as the official LP cover art.
