Keith Urban has had his own battles with addiction, and now he's giving some words of wisdom to Demi Lovato after the pop star was hospitalized for a drug overdose last week.
During a recent visit to the Australian morning show Today Extra, the 50-year-old, who's been candid about substance abuse in the past, gave the 25-year-old some sage advice.
“I don’t know anything about her personally,” Urban admitted, noting that he'd tell her to “Just [have] good people around her and a willingness to want to live a different way if that’s what she wants to do. It’s all up to her.”
In a 2016 Rolling Stone interview, Urban opened up about his addiction, and how dark things got for him.
“I didn’t seem able to stop. There was no stopping this time. I’d go to sleep, wake up a couple hours later, go at it again, drinking to take the edge off. I remember thinking, ‘I’m probably not going to make it until tomorrow,’” he recalled. “And then I thought, ‘F*** it, I don’t care. It’ll be a relief to not have to. I’ll take an Ambien and at some point I’ll pass.”
Now when he needs to clear his mind, he goes on a drive or records music in the studio.
Since Lovato's overdose, an outpouring of love has come her way from fans, friends, and even ex-lovers. She is reportedly heading to rehab once she's released from the hospital.
