An Indiana family's pet pig thwarted a burglar who attempted to break into their home. The homeowners told Fox 59 that police believe that the intruders fled at the sight of "Dumplin," a full-grown pig that the family had rescued earlier in the year.
“The officers were guessing when the person broke in they were probably surprised I had a pig and were like, ‘We don’t want to deal with this.' The cop was like, we definitely think they got in and made it to where Dumplin was and thought, ‘Nope. We don’t want no part of this.'”
There were two other home invasions within two blocks of the family's home on the same day. Police did not say whether they believe the burglaries were related.
The homeowner explained that she recently moved to the home and noticed that burglaries appear to be common.
“I guess it’s something I should have looked into. It’s common in the neighborhood. I didn’t think about it. I was excited to be buying my first home,” she said.
Luckily for her family, Dumplin was on hand to scare away the burglars before they managed to steal anything or harm the pig.
Police continue to search for the suspects and have asked the public to come forward with any information that might lead to their arrest.
