Meghan Markle's relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, has been quite strained since the weeks leading up the to the royal wedding. After it was revealed that Thomas staged paparazzi photos of him preparing for the nuptials, he released a statement that revealed he suffered a heart attack just days before he was slated to walk his daughter down the aisle. Sources close to the situation claim that Thomas faked the heart attack to either get out of going after the intense public scrutiny or to cover up being uninvited by the royal family.
The Markle family drama didn't stop there, either. After his daughter wed Prince Harry, Thomas gave a series of cringeworthy interviews about Meghan. Despite Meghan's express wishes, Thomas continued to talk to the press about her, as well as her relationship with Prince Harry and her in-laws. It's been reported that Meghan has reached a breaking point and is done with her father, though, rumors are starting to spread that she might be planning a secret trip to visit him.
"The possibility of a reunion has been discussed and Meghan looks set to incorporate it into her trip," a source told The Daily Mail. "Thomas is apparently keeping two dates free at the end of the month with a view to traveling from his home in Mexico to LA to meet his daughter. The location and exact dates will be top secret for both their sakes. It is a very sensitive time for them, but the intent seems to be to heal the rift."
These rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, of course, because there's been no official statement from the Palace about any of the Thomas Markle drama. Meghan's half-sister, Samantha Grant, spoke to The Sun about the reunion rumors after The Mail broke the story. “I speak to him [Thomas] every day and it’s sad but, no, they have not contacted him,” she said. “There is no meeting planned, that is PR spin.”
Samantha added that: "The PR machines can stop trying to make out she’s making an effort — she is not. This is a heartbreaking time for him and I’m very sad watching my sister ignore him."
It's worth noting that this is a heartbreaking time for Meghan, as well, who has to deal with her father discussing her private life in paid interviews. Maybe if Thomas stopped doing that Meghan might be more inclined to speak with him? Just a thought!
