Even though Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore finally tied the knot in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, fans ultimately felt let down by the highly anticipated wedding ceremony. Due to budget and production restraints, the on-screen ceremony was extremely small fast paced. Luke's nephew, Jess Mariano, who he helped raise was not at the wedding and neither was his daughter, April Nardini. The worst offense of all, though, was that Lorelai's mother, Emily Gilmore, was not in the scene, either. Scott Patterson, who plays Luke on the show, wants a re-do just as much as the fans do, according to Us Weekly.
âWell, Iâll tell you one thing, [there] better be a big, fat wedding!â the 60-year-old actor told the outlet âI think thatâs what we should give [fans] ⊠I think now itâs time to give them, after 20 years, what they want.â
âBig, funny, fun,â he continued. âFilled with drama, filled with laughs, filled with, you know, Miss Patty [forgetting] the dancers and then they [would have] to replace them with little children or dogs. Something very cute and goes right to the heart. A community pulling together to make it all happen.â
âDoing weddings is an American tradition in film and television. Youâve got all those great wedding scenes in big movies. And, you know, theyâre hard to do, they take a long time ⊠you know, itâs challenging, itâs a bit expensive, but itâs just worth doing,â he said. âI mean, thatâs where the story wants to go.â
As for whether his vision of a big, blow out Stars Hollow wedding for the central couple of Gilmore Girls will ever happen? Patterson can't say for sure. Though there's been whispers of a follow to A Year in the Life, nothing is set in stone. Yet. âIf everybody can make the right deal, then itâll happen,â he explained. âIf everybodyâs available, then, you know, it could, it could happen ⊠thereâs always hope.â
