Twitter Is Dragging Kim Kardashian For Her ‘Private Island’ Birthday Bash

"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time." — Kim Kardashian on her recent 40th birthday celebration.

On Tuesday (October 27), the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star revealed that she "surprised" her friends with a birthday trip like none other last week, sharing photos of the lavish weeklong celebration on social media, along with a lengthy caption that explained how she was able to pull off the vacation in the middle of a global pandemic.

As one might expect, the backlash was swift and fierce with Twitter not only dragging Kim for taking the trip as COVID-19 cases spike across the United States — on Tuesday at least 983 new coronavirus deaths and 74,410 new cases were reported in the United States — but also for explaining it in the way that she did.

"40 and feeling so humbled and blessed," Kim captioned the series of shots from her trip on Tuesday. "There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter."

"For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today. Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment," she wrote. "After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is."

The caption was ruthlessly mocked on Twitter with scenes from films including Midsommar, Parasite and, The Wicker Man being captioned with quotes from Kim's initial tweet. And don't get me started on the creative memes mocking the vacay as well.
