Katy Perry debuted her song 'Only Love' at the American Music Awards on Sunday (November 22). The track is off the pop star's sixth studio album Smile.
The moving lyrics of 'Only Love reference Perry's parents: "If I had nothing to lose, nah, nothing to lose/Oh, I'd call my mother and tell her I'm sorry I never call her back/I'd pour my heart and soul out into a letter/And send it to my dad." Just ahead of the start of the show, Perry dedicated the performance to her dad.
"Tonight’s [AMAs] performance is for my father," Perry wrote on Instagram, alongside a sweet baby photo.
Not only did Perry perform 'Only Love' for the first time at the AMAs, she surprised fans by collaborating with country star Darius Rucker. The singers revealed they'd be performing together shortly before the show was set to begin, as well. Rucker said he was "excited" to take the stage with Perry.
