Normani Talks Underdog Feels, Paying Her Dues And Mental Health Importance

Josh Martinez kicked it with Normani and the two talked about Normani always feeling like an underdog, the importance of mental health, creating her own sound for the first time while recording for her new album, being compared to other artists, filming the 'Wide Side' video for her collaboration with Cardi B + much more!

Normani:

"Over this pandemic I really dealt with head-on just the fact that I've always felt like an underdog and that necessarily doesn't mean that it has to be negative, but the way that people have built opinion on me is sometimes how it's projected on myself. It's crazy I'm learning how to be like 'no I worked my *ss off I've paid my dues, I've put in my work and this is what i was born to do. This is where my purpose lies of course this is happening to me'. I'm learning how to change my perspective and being able to receive positive things happening to me."

Normani also touched on the black community needing to talk more about therapy, breaking the cycle that keeps minorities from seeking mental health help and how she just pulls up to church (even if it's closed) when she feels like she's losing control of situations. "I'm a human being I have insecurities and things that I'm battling as well' she says.

As a cool bonus Josh asks some fan questions .
