NJ Cancels Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration Due To COVID Spread

More than a year the organizer of New Jersey's annual Pride celebration, usually held in Asbury Park, was forced to go virtual due to COVID concerns they've been forced to cancel this year's festivities for the same reason.

The latest of major events in NJ to be effected by a spike of the Delta variant, this would have been the celebration's 30th anniversary expected to be held on October 10th.

Laura Pople, president of Jersey Pride, said "It's heartbreaking. We looked at so many different variables, including the feedback we had from the community. Generally, the response we’ve gotten is, ‘thanks for putting health and safety first."

Jersey Pride has opted to postpone the 30th celebration until next June, saying that a virtual event wouldn't do the anniversary justice.
