A new video of a Citi Bike being hit by a train is going viral. The video was posted on Monday by Overtime on TikTok.
It quickly shows one of the blue rental bikes laying in the tracks at the Steinway St station in Astoria. An R train immediately appears and strikes the bike before it explodes from the electrified tracks.
NYPD reported that the incident occurred around 10:25pm when someone rolled the bike on to the tracks. The bike was hit by two trains, both going in opposite directions.
An MTA spokesperson says that the person who put the bike there “should be prosecuted for their reckless disregard for safety of subway riders and workers.”
While people were seen fleeing the first train that hit the bike, there were no injuries reported.
