Gigi Haid will reportedly not try to keep her one-year-old daughter, Khai, away from her dad, Zayn Malik, amid their split and ongoing family dispute. Gigi's mother, Yolanda Hadid, accused Zayn of "striking" her during an argument. Though Zayn denies striking Yolanda, he pleaded no contest to four counts of harassment.
"Yolanda is very upset with Zayn, but Gigi has made it clear that her daughter needs her dad," a source explained to People. "Gigi will do everything she can to make sure they co-parent in a civil way."
Despite Gigi's desire for Zayn to remain a constant in Khai's life, Yoland is allegedly unhappy with the situation. "Yolanda is, of course, very protective of Gigi," the source continued. "She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild. She has had some issues with Zayn. He has a complicated personality, and she thinks he could treat Gigi better. It's been hard at times for Gigi to live with him."
Another insider with close ties to Zayn claims the couple have "continued to fight over Khai" since the alleged incident between Zayn and Yolanda. "It was a super toxic relationship," the insider added.
Another source close to Zayn, however, denies these claims and insists Zayn and Gigi "are not fighting" at this time. The former couple is "actively and amicably working to find the best way to co-parent now," according to this source.
People reports the argument stemmed from an incident in which Yolanda arrived at Zayn and Gigi's Pennsylvania home uninvited while Gigi was out of town. "Yolanda came over uninvited while Gigi was away for work and Zayn was taking care of Khai," a friend of Zayn's told the outlet. "That led to an argument."
Zayn addressed the situation on Twitter after TMZ first reported Yolanda's allegations. "In an effort to protect that space for [my daughter] I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago," he wrote. "This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been 'leaked' to the press."
"Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time," a spokesperson for the supermodel said told People.
