Fans of Disney's Descendants film series tuned in to the premiere of the latest in the franchise in such high numbers that it broke an impressive viewership record for Disney+.

Deadline reports that Descendants: The Rise of Red, the fourth film in the series and a follow-up to 2019's Descendants 3, broke a three-day Disney+ streaming record after its premiere July 12, drawing in a staggering 6.7 million views within the first few days of its release. According to Disney, this makes the magical film Disney Branded Television's most-viewed Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) premiere on the streaming site.

Viewership for the new film surpassed other highly-watched movies and TV shows such as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film, which had 4.6 million views within three days. However, other titles like the Loki season 2 debut and the season 3 premiere of The Mandalorian also drew in incredible numbers at 10.9 million global views and 823 million view minutes, respectively, in each show's first few days of streaming, per Deadline.

While marketed toward younger audiences, older viewers may notice something special in Descendants: The Rise of Red. The film also saw the return of Brandy and Paolo Montalban reprising their roles as Cinderella and Prince Christopher (now King Charming) from 1997's Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.

According to IMDb, the film follows Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella, as they team up to go back in time to save the land of Auradon and "stop an even that would cause grave consequences."

Descendants: The Rise of Red will soon make its way to cable as well as be available to stream on Disney+ as it is set to premiere on Disney Channel on August 9.
