Book vs. Movie: "P.S. I Still Love You"

The day we've all been waiting for is here: "To All the Boys I've Loved Before: P.S. I Still Love You" is officially out! While fans of the franchise have been loving the movie, there's been a divide between some because of the love triangle that forms. People have been pledging their loyalty to either #TeamPeter or #TeamJohn, and trying to decide which boy is better for our beloved Lara Jean.

For any YA book fans like me, you were probably worried that the movie wouldn't honor the book. But I'm here to ease your minds -- worry no more! For the most part, the movie stayed true to the book and followed the plot. However, there's always going to be some changes in book-to-movie adaptations. Check out five of the biggest differences below! Warning: there WILL be spoilers!

The Timeline:

The first movie ended with Lara Jean and Peter becoming an official couple. However, in the first book, it ends with Lara Jean planning to confess her love to Peter. Because of this, the timeline of "P.S. I Still Love You" is a bit different in the movie than in the book. In the grand scheme of things, everything that is supposed to happen eventually happens. So is it that big of a deal if the order is different?

There's No Game of Assassin:

In the book, Lara Jean and her friend group play a game of Assassin. This doesn't happen at all in the movie. Honestly, it doesn't feel like anything major was left out because the results that come from that game end up happening anyways. If the game was added in, it might have felt a bit hectic and as if there was too much going on at once. Besides, we still got to see the friend group hanging out in their old treehouse. What more could you ask for?

Lara Jean and John Ambrose's Relationship:

As a John Ambrose fan, I was really looking forward to seeing how they would capture his and Lara Jean's relationship. I was not disappointed. There were only a few changes made to make the movie flow and make more sense! One of the biggest changes is the fact that Lara Jean and John Ambrose aren't pen pals in the movie. She actually never replies to his letter. Instead, they end up volunteering at Belleview together. Also, John Ambrose is not Stormy's great-grandson. One other minor change that only serous fans probably noticed is the fact that in the book they plan a USO party at Belleview, but in the movie it's a Star Ball.

Josh and Margot:

Lara Jean's sister, Margot, and her ex-boyfriend, Josh, are much more present in the book than the movie. In the book, Josh hangs out with Lara Jean a few times, and even eventually ends up getting a new girlfriend. However, he's completely absent in the movie. Lara Jean's family is a bigger part of the books than in the movies, so it isn't surprising that her sister isn't featured as much in "P.S. I Still Love You". While it may be a bummer to not see these characters as much, it didn't really change the course of the plot.

The Location:

The movies and books take place in completely different locations. The characters in the books live in Virginia, but in the movies they live in Oregon. This wasn't that big of a deal in the first two movies, some license plate and sports team changes did the trick. The only issue that may arise is in the third movie, because the third book centers around the fact that Lara Jean and Peter dream of going to a local Virginia college together. It may not be a big deal though, since they could instead choose to go to a college in Oregon instead!

Even though some changes were made, I still stand by the fact that both movies are two of the best book-to-movie adaptations I've seen (and I've read a lot of books that were made into movies)! All the changes just made the plot flow better, and most people probably won't even notice them!

On the topic of the new movie, I can't not mention Jordan Fisher, who played John Ambrose. His performance blew my mind and I can honestly say he was the perfect actor for the role. As a fan of the book trilogy, I knew that John Ambrose didn't get the happy ending he deserved. But who knows if there's still hope in store for him? Since there's no confirmation that he'll be in the third and final movie, we can only hope that he will be since he brought so much heart to "P.S. I Still Love You"!

If you watched the movie and haven't had enough of Jordan Fisher, check out a video of when he visited Z100!

For anyone like me that was counting down the days until "P.S I Still Love You" came out, you might be kind of bummed that we have to wait again for the third and final movie. On the other hand, that just means you even even more time to figure out if you're #TeamPeter or #TeamJohn!
