Celebs Seek Justice For Daunte Wright After Fatal Police Shooting

Ariana Grande, Olivia Rodrigo, Macklemore, and Mandy Moore all took to social media in light of the killing of Daunte Wright by a Minnesota police officer. Wright was killed after being stopped for air fresheners hanging on his rearview mirror, which is illegal in Minnesota. The officer, identified as 26 year veteran, Kim Potter, shouted “taser” but instead pulled out her gun and shot Wright. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon described the shooting in Monday's (April 12) press conference as "an accidental discharge."

Ariana Grande and Mandy Moore shared resources for protestors needing legal help. She also called the killing, “sickening and heartbreaking.” Moore also called for the system to go through a “transformation.” Olivia Rodrigo shared an infographic that put Wright’s unlawful death in context of Derick Chauvin’s ongoing murder trial. Finally, Macklemore wrote on social media, "Again. And again. And again. Im on the verge of tears thinking about his life, his sons life, his parents, his girlfriend. The ripples of this senseless police killing, AGAIN of an unarmed black man. This is horrific.”

Many of you may be wondering how I feel about another senseless murder of a young, unarmed black man by a police officer...the answer is simple, I AM FU&@KING DISGUSTED! The audacity of Police Chief Tim Gannon to say that this was an accidental discharge is repulsive! Here's the deal, police officers aren't allowed to have mistakes, it's a profession that doesn't come with that luxury. Same goes for doctors, surgeons, and airplane pilots. The years of training is to eliminate the off chance that one might mistake a handgun for a taser or a pair of scissors for a scalpel.
