A kindergartner in Michigan has been accused of bringing tequila to school and sharing it with several classmates.
The incident occurred last Thursday at Grand River Academy in Livonia, where the unidentified student reportedly brought a bottle of Jose Cuervo mixed tequila drink to class, poured it into small paper cups and handed out the drinks during snack time, one parent tells NBC. A staff member "quickly noticed the beverage and immediately addressed the situation" by calling "medical professionals at poison control and calling the parents of the children involved," according to school spokeswoman Leah Nixon.
However, parent Dominique Zanders says it was her 5-year-old daughter who alerted the staff, telling teachers she felt "woozy" and "dizzy" after downing the drink. In response, Nixon says, "While we try to keep an eye on everything our students bring to school, that’s simply not possible. It’s unfortunate that these types of adult beverages can be easily mistaken for child-friendly drinks."
