Even if you like to think of yourself as calm and detached, you still have emotions. Everybody has emotions.
And so do your friends, like the ones you live with. You know, your little dog, your cat, and even your plant. Well, kind of. Bear with me here. Just like we would, or your dog would, plants actually ‘scream’ when you cut them, according to a study.
Scientists found that every time a plant is cut or is dehydrated it 'screams'. They also say it's not just a little, faint yelp; it's actually about the same volume as human conversations.
Researchers examined the stress responses of tobacco and tomato plants.
They were left without water for several days and had their stems chopped. They were also put in a significantly noisier green house and a soundproof acoustic chamber.
The noises were so high in frequency that they were completely undetectable to the human ear, therefore a special recorder was brought in to capture the variation.
the recorders picked up that a single plant will let out between 30 to 50 of these noises in just an hour, if it’s really feeling that stress.
However, scientists have discovered that other plants, such as cacti, wheat, and grape, also make the same sounds as those two kinds of plants when they scream.
Well, now that you know that your spinach is screaming what’s next? A giant peach?
